The first quarter saw both teams constantly strive for possession of the ball.
Circle defence at both ends was strong, successfully putting pressure on all shooters, as the score stood 8-7 in Forsythes favour at the end of the quarter.
There was a struggle for the first goal in the second quarter as both defence ends continued their hard work, though Forsythes gained the upper hand and led 18-16 at half-time.
The scoring remained tight in the third quarter, as Maryville Tavern’s defence stepped up.
This greatly affected Forsythes’ attacking end.
The goal difference narrowed; Forsythes led by three and then one.
Tension was felt throughout the court as every pass counted, at one stage there being two held balls within less than a minute, and collisions became more frequent in the second half due to the level of contesting of the ball.
Forsythes held a two-goal lead - 25-23 - heading into the last quarter.
They picked up their pace and pulled through to win 37-30.
Although coming up short, Maryville Tavern never showed any signs of giving up as they played a tremendous game.
As this netball season draws to a close, the Greater Open Championship grand final between South Leagues Netball Club and Forsythes Business Advisors will take place on court 9 in National Park at 2.30pm this Saturday, September 5.
