With that in mind, it's time to shine the spotlight on some of the unsung heroes of our city who have made an outstanding contribution to the community, by nominating them for a 2016 Lake Macquarie Australia Day Award.
The Australia Day Awards recognise individuals and groups based in Lake Macquarie who have made a positive impact within our community, or even further afield.
Each year we receive high-calibre nominations, which proves we have an abundance of extraordinary people with community spirit.
By acknowledging these special people, we show our thanks and inspire others to do and be the same.
Nominations for the awards are open in the categories of Citizen of the Year; Young Citizen of the Year (age 19-30); Junior Young Citizen of the Year; (age 18 and younger); Volunteer of the Year; Community Group of the Year; and Community Event of the Year.
More information and nomination forms are available online at lakemac.com.au/ausawards and close on Friday, October 30, with award winners announced in January next year.
