The action group will host a public meeting at Belmont 16ft Sailing Club on Monday, September 7, to discuss the state government’s plans to close Belmont and Toronto motor registries and open a ‘‘one-stop shop’’ Service NSW centre in Warners Bay.
The shopfronts are slated to close next month when the Warners Bay centre opens.
Ms Catley and Lake Macquarie MP Greg Piper have started petitions in their respective electorates, which are gaining traction.
Belmont & District Residents’ Action Group president Robin Gordon said the group had called the meeting to ‘‘help make some noise’’.
‘‘We need to alert the state government that we [the community] are outraged that they would dare to take this service from us,’’ she said.
Mrs Gordon said the group’s main concern was public transport, and how Belmont residents would travel to Warners Bay.
‘‘I defy anybody to make an easy journey on public transport to Warners Bay from most parts of Belmont,’’ she said.
‘‘There are lots of people who use public transport, whether they choose to or they have to. Those people need to be considered in this.’’
