Save Our Rail plans to meet at Civic Station this Sunday, October 11, and pressure the Upper House in voting against a bill that will allow the state government to close the line legally.
The group is pinning its hopes on securing support from the Shooters and Fishers Party.
Save Our Rail president Joan Dawson said the bill would not only change the law to allow closure of the Newcastle rail line permanently, but it would also allow the sale of the corridor land.
She said this had implications throughout the state as it could be used as a precedent for the closure and sale of any rail line.
