Tennis centres in the area reported increased activity levels and with daylight savings starting this Sunday a bumper summer of tennis is predicted.
I encourage those wanting fun exercise to take up tennis. Chasing that little yellow ball around a court is the best way to have an enjoyable work out with friends.
With school term four starting this week all centres and clubs are recommencing their coaching programs and planning events leading into the end of the year.
At Lake Macquarie Tennis Centre we have already scheduled a free racquet "demo" day on Saturday, October 17, with a radar speed gun and ball machine sessions to test your skills. Junior and senior interclub challenges with Nelson Bay Tennis Club are also planned for later in the term. There are more events to come at Lake Macquarie Tennis Centre and with the arrival of summer weather all active tennis centres and clubs will offer plenty of events for the keen tennis player.
Just give your club pro a call and you wont be disappointed.
Lake Macquarie Tennis Centre conducted a strong junior tournament last Friday with the centre's dedicated juniors battling it out for four hours of tough tennis.
Congratulations to Vashisht Jain in winning the open grade from Izaac Stace and Cameron Scott who won the green ball group from Lucas Stace.
The centre's Emily Brogan, Nick Robinson and coach, David Rae are competing at the Gloucester Open over the long weekend and we wish them well. Its great to see David back into tournament play after his recent illness and I am sure he will show the younger players how to play strong smart tennis.
On the Pro Tour Nick Kyrgios is through to the semi finals of The Malaysian Open after defeating the big serving number three seed Ivo Karlovic 7-6, 7-6. Surprise, surprise??? Has Tennis Australia's problem child turned the corner? let's hope so. His form is definitely improving and a tough two tie break set win over seasoned campaigner Ivo Karlovic will do wonders for his mental toughness. It be fantastic to have Nick with all his wonderful talents focusing totally on tennis. We'll watch with great interest.
