This program provides funds for community organisations to undertake projects that improve the local environment and inspire environmentally sustainable behaviours across the city.
Central Rankin Park Landcare received funds to rehabilitate habitat around Blue Wren Creek, while the Community Environment Network will put its funds towards promoting biodiversity in rural areas.
I was also pleased to see funding allocated to a number of preschool and primary schools.
Birralee Long Daycare and Preschool at Whitebridge will create a native garden with its funds and Lakeside School at Gateshead will plant a sensory rainforest.
The council accepts applications for Environmental Sustainability Grants twice a year, with the next round of applications opening on Monday, February 1.
