It’s time to get stuck into the whiting and bream on the sand flats.
Light lines and leaders, small sinkers, berley and live worms are all the ingredients needed for some tasty fun in the shallows.
Anglers have caught some nice flathead in Swansea Channel.
The deep water adjacent to the rock walls along the channel has been working well.
Bigger plastics fished close to the edge of the rocks at the base of the wall seems to be the go.
If you are fishing in the channel don’t forget your squid jigs, and head out to Moon Island for a couple of squid too.
Tailor have been schooling in the lake and feeding on white bait.
These feeding frenzies attracts bigger fish like mulloway.
Trolling diving lures is a good way of locating the bait fish and tailor. Casting smaller metal lures into the school works well.
Newcastle Harbour and the Hunter River got much-needed flush after last weekend’s storms and rain.
This sparked many fish and anglers into action, by mid last week the reports of a few mulloway being caught in the harbour started to filter in.
Bream and flathead catches have also been pretty good.
The Hunter’s beaches are starting to fire up.
Whiting numbers are steadily increasing on Stockton Beach.
At the moment you should be able you catch a feed but a bag limit is still a ways off yet.
Offshore anglers have been getting mixed catches of reef and game fish.
