AFL NSW donated eight goal posts and protective pads, as well as six footballs, worth $3000.
Stage 2-3 assistant principal Trent Austin said the equipment was a welcome addition to the school’s sporting resources.
“The addition of the eight posts will make the playing of games more realistic, easier to set up and further develop the game in our community,” he said.
“It’s going to allow these students to have opportunities they didn’t have before.
“We’re really grateful to AFL NSW.”
AFL is big at the school, and has been for the past eight years.
It is an integral part of the school’s sports program, with some students representing Shortland at inter-school competitions.
Each year the school enters a boys and a girls team in the Paul Kelly Cup.
The school is also involved in Auskick and University of Newcastle student programs.
