Police and Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters were were called to Pelican Marina after a section of Milanos On the Lake collapsed about 9.30am on February 8.
“A portion of the marina had given way and fell into Lake Macquarie,” read a NSW Police Force statement.
“There were two people in the marina at the time however no injuries have been reported.”
Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman Ian Krimmer said it appeared the building’s piers had been undermined.
Mr Kimmer said firefighters isolated the power and gas upon arriveing on Monday and booms were set up in the water around the marina to prevent oil spilling into the lake.
Engineers were also called to the marine to assess the building’s stability.
Jim Sommers, who ran boating company Marine Sale Solutions on the ground floor, said he had only left the marina 20 minutes before the collapse.
Mr Sommers said Crown Lands had taken over the running of the marina in December. He said there was an inspection done on the marina in December.
