Local government ensures residents have access to necessary services, but we are also committed to ensuring the welfare of our residents by providing support services and supporting other community welfare organisations.

Each of us also have a role in ensuring each others' wellbeing. As neighbours, we should take the time to check on each other and make sure those who share our neighbourhood, our street, and our fence, are OK.
Created after the death of Mrs Elsie Brown, whose remains were discovered in her home two years after she passed away, Neighbour Day is a call to action that ensures someone will always be there to look out for us.
While many of us are fortunate enough to have family and friends who we see frequently, not all of our neighbours have this kind of support network. I would like to encourage our Lake Macquarie residents to meet and check on your neighbours, regardless of their age.
