Running from April 26 through to July 26, the Great Lake Challenge is part of a wider initiative by Lake Macquarie Tourism to encourage locals and visitors to rediscover the Lake.
Home to undiscovered gems, the largest coastal salt-water lake in the country and 30 kilometres of pristine coastline, Lake Macquarie is one of the east coast’s hidden treasures.

From holiday parks and classic camp grounds to uninhabited islands, secluded beaches, beautiful forests, majestic mountains and more, there’s something sure to appeal to everyone.
“The Great Lake Challenge is designed to highlight not just the natural wonders of the region, but its many amazing accommodation, food and beverage, attractions and activity operators who keep our economy alive,” Lake Macquarie City Council Tourism Marketing Coordinator Ms Bianca Gilmore said.
“Over the coming months we hope to inspire locals to visit their favourite business, have their Great Lake Challenge entry form stamped, and go into the draw to win some amazing prizes.”
Local residents will receive an entry form in their April rates notice. Alternatively, they can download a copy at www.visitlakemac.com.au/the-great-lake-challenge, or pick up a copy at a participating operator.
Entrants must visit eight participating operators and have their entry flyer stamped at each. The more operators they visit, the more chances they will have to win the grand prize of a Lake Break for four at Raffertys Resort, or one of 26 runners-up prizes.
Prizes include meal vouchers from operators including the Boatshed Bar and Galley at Belmont 16s, Café Macquarie, Caves Beachside Hotel, Pelican RSL, Q&Co Café, Toronthai Restaurant and Salty Dog Bistro at the Lake Macquarie Yacht Club.
Activities include golf at Charlestown Golf Club, family passes for JetBuzz, vouchers from Lake Mac Kayak & Bike Hire and Healing Haven Markets, a night at the Macquarie Inn, a Nova Cruises family pass, passes and souvenirs from the Richmond Vale Railway Museum, cash and more.
A new interactive ‘’game’’ called ‘’Create your Lake Break’’ has also been developed. For further details visit www.visitlakemac.com.au.
Over the coming months we hope to inspire locals.
