The Trailer was developed as part of an artist residency in Wyong over three year during which time Bates worked with young people to explore and develop a concept for a play.
The production will open in Newcastle at Studio 1, as part of the Civic Playhouse subscription season in June.
Newcastle-based emerging actor Jackson Vaughan, 19, will play the lead role of Jed.
In the play Keera, played by Central Coast actor 16-year-old Tallulah Cobban, and Jed form a rocky friendship over Keera’s unusual penchant for sinkholes and Jed’s search for his father, whom he has never met.
The cast is completed by Newcastle’s Christopher Saunders and Angie Diaz.
Civic Playhouse Newcastle dates, June 8 to 11.
