Adamstown remain unbeaten after 12 rounds and extended their lead at the top of the table to 11 points with the victory at Adamstown Oval.
They have 31 points with nine rounds remaining in the season proper. But below them, just three points separate Merewether (20) in second place and Warners Bay (17) in fourth.
Defending champions Merewether seized second spot from Wallsend (18), who had the bye over the weekend, with a 1-0 win over last-placed Mid North Coast at Myamblah Oval on Sunday.
Warners Bay put eight points between the top four and fifth-placed Thornton (nine) by beating the Redbacks 4-1 at John St Oval on Sunday. All four goals came in the first half of Adamstown’s game, with Dobson scoring a double and Emily Frost also getting on the scoresheet for the hosts while Lauren Austin scored off a corner for South Wallsend.
Adamstown coach Ben Herron said it was an improved performance for his side but rued a lack of ruthlessness in the final third.
“Our finishing let us down a lot, and we lacked a little bit of composure in the box,” Herron said.
“The amount of chances we created but didn’t finish was pretty criminal.”
