I was very proud to be able help a charity that helps victims of domestic violence get back on their feet last week when I presented the proceeds of the recent Lord Mayor's Prayer Breakfast.

Girl Friday, which provides carer packs to women and kids sheltering at local refuges, received the cheque for $9000, which was raised by business, community and church groups at West Leagues Club, New Lambton.
Girl Friday helped more than 300 women and their families affected by domestic violence last year - three times as many as the previous year. I would also like to thank the prayer breakfast's organiser, Pastor Rick Prosser, and everyone who turned out for their generosity.
Girl Friday founders and friends Michelle Barnett, Kathie Good and Sandra Jarvie have been providing "Girl Friday Packs" for women and children leaving refuges for around five years. The kitchen packs, linen starter packs and school bag starter packs are deeply appreciated by women who, more often than not, have fled suddenly with no possessions in tow.
Every two years, Girl Friday also funds a makeover of a refuge, furnishing it with beds, linen and furniture to make those seeking sanctuary more comfortable. They also provide Mother's Day and Christmas gifts and hampers.
The annual Lord Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast is a gathering of churches, charities, businesses and community groups to pray for the city and support a charity.
