When I started my term as mayor in 2012, Lake Macquarie Council was awarded the prestigious A R Bluett Memorial Award for excellence in all-round performance within NSW Local Government. Since then, we have achieved many great things for the city and they’re all equally important. From the investment we’ve made in opening up Glendale to further business development and the creation of thousands of new jobs with the construction of Section 1, Stage 1 of the Lake Macquarie Transport Interchange, to the successful collaboration with the Marks Point and Belmont South communities to help prepare and adapt to sea level rise. These are both projects that I’ll remember as being very significant for our community.
There’s a whole range of other community projects that I am very proud of – like the new Cardiff Library; bringing the world to Lake Macquarie via the International Children’s Games in 2014; the establishment of Dantia, Lake Macquarie’s Economic Development Company; as well as the roll out of green waste bins into Lake Macquarie suburbs and how, importantly, you have made this service a continued success.
Lake Macquarie City offers an incredible lifestyle, with world-class infrastructure, engaged and connected communities, a strong and diversified economy, and superb natural beauty. It is these things, along with Council’s ability to operate efficiently that led to Lake Macquarie City Council to remain as a stand-alone organisation, and now it’s time to look towards the future. Thank you for the memories, I’m extraordinarily grateful for the privilege of having been your Mayor, and I'll always be a strong advocate for Lake Macquarie.
