In the same spirit of the latest mobile gaming craze, Lake Macquarie City Council will head out into the field to engage the public with the purpose of finding out what residents value about the City and how they want it to look, feel and function in the future.
Council’s Manager Integrated Planning Sharon Pope said Council staff will set up an Ideas Wall once a week in various spots around the City to chat with residents and visitors as part of the Shape Your Future project.
“When residents and visitors provide feedback at the pop-up Ideas Wall, or any of the varied feedback methods being used for the Shape Your Future project, they will be contributing to the development of a vision for the City, including a set of values on which Council’s decision-making will be based,” Ms Pope said.
“The vision and values that Council and the community develop together, will be used as the basis for creating a long-term Community Strategic Plan.
“The Plan informs other long, mid and short-term plans developed by Council, and helps with decisions on how rates and grants should be spent across the City.”
Council want resident and visitors to be involved in the consultation process.
“We would like as many local people as possible to share their ideas about the future of Lake Macquarie City, because it will guide what Council does now and into the future,” Ms Pope said.
Staff will pop up once a week for a few hours at each location to ask people to post answers to two short questions on the Ideas Wall. There will be giveaways and other incentives for those who participate.
Council will announce on social media and lakemac.com.au the exact time and location of the pop-up Ideas Wall on the day.
Those who miss out can still have their say by visiting shapeyourfuture.net.au.
The first location will be Charlestown Square.
