What has been happening for the Gooch Palms?
We’ve been living in Los Angeles since March 2015 and in that time we’ve toured the US a bunch of times, played over 150 shows and recorded and released our new album Introverted Extroverts off our own record label Summer Camp Records.
Tell us about your new album Introverted Extroverts?
The recording process was great. We recorded the album in an amazing studio in Michigan with a great engineer named Bill Skibbe. It was so much fun and really relaxed and we instantly clicked.
Most of the songs were written before we left Newcastle so Newy inspired a few of the tracks but most of the lyrical inspiration came from the title.
We are both introverted extroverts. It’s a weird lifestyle being performers and partying every night but at the same time dealing with the introverted side of our personalities. But writing songs about it helps a lot.
How do you feel about coming home to Newcastle to perform?
The home-town Newy shows are always the best. They personally mean the most to us and the crowds are always super awesome.
We can’t wait for The Cambridge show. We chose to do Newcastle last so we can make it the most special of all the shows on the album tour.
How is life and music in the US going? Have you toured Introverted Extroverts in the US?
We start the US leg of the tour as soon as we get back on September 16, so we won’t really have any down time between here and there. But life is like a dream come true over there.
We live 20 metres from Sunset Blvd … and live off playing shows. It’s ridiculous!!!
The audiences in the US were instant and we slipped right into playing great venues with awesome bands and awesome crowds.
What has been your most rock'n'roll moment to date?
Ha ha, well the after-parties on the Violent Soho, DZ Deathrays, Dune Rats & Gooch Palms tour were pretty epic and “rock’n’roll”. Can’t really go into too much more detail. Wink wink.
Do you have any words for other aspiring Newcastle talent?
You live in the greatest city in the world but make sure you get out and tour Australia. Show ’em what Newy’s made of.
The Gooch Palms will play the Cambridge Hotel on September 10. Tickets are $20 and available at bigtix.com.au
