Not only do they get to train with the best ballet dancers in the world – but they get to perform with them on stage as well.
The smiles were impossible to miss last week when dancers from the Imperial Russian Ballet Company led a class of school-aged performers from Lambton’s National College of Dance.
The Moscow dancers and their Newcastle recruits were rehearsing for The Nutcracker, a Tchaikovsky classic billed as an “ageless tale of bravery and dreams”. The concert is known for bringing young performers on stage.
“Whenever you think of ballet, you think of Russia. They are the icons – Russia is ballet," the academy’s Vicki Morgan said.
“It is just the best opportunity for our dancers – they’ve given local kids a chance.”
The Nutcracker is on at Newcastle Civic Theatre on September 15. Tickets through the box office.
