This new work will celebrate Newcastle – the city of the artist's birth and his childhood home.
The work, The River is a Strong Brown God, will be unveiled in November as part of a summer exhibition titled John Olsen: The City’s Son.
Born in Newcastle in 1928, Olsen considers himself a Novocastrian. The exhibition will open on November 4 and Olsen will help curate the works. It will include the new large acquisition which captures the essence of his birthplace.
A fundraising raffle for the acquisition is being held with a chance to win a framed, hand-signed fine art reproduction of The Little Universe of the Sous Chef.
Tickets are $25, three for $50 and 10 for $100.
Tickets can be purchased at the front desk of the Newcastle Art Gallery, or through the gallery website: nag.org.au
