House with No Steps community engagement officer Shelley Youman said monies raised from the event would play an important role in supporting inclusiveness in sports throughout the region.
“We want to help clubs develop programs for kids with disabilities,” Ms Youman said. “Parents are saying that they really need a program for kids with disabilities but they still want to be part of a club, to get that community feel.”
House with No Steps already runs disability surfing and surf-lifesaving programs and Ms Youman said funding played a big role in what programs could be delivered.
The lunch is at Merewether Surfhouse on October 14. Guest speakers include Newcastle Jets captains Nigel Boogaard and Gema Simon, Paralympian Christie Dawes and Olympian Scott Westcott. Tickets at tix.yt/hwns-sports-luncheon
