The International Spring Spectacular Dog Show at Hillsborough this weekend promises to provide plenty of entertainment and information for avid dog lovers or families looking to add a canine to the household.

The annual event is the biggest dog show in Australia outside of metropolitan areas. It starts Friday and runs over three days from 8am to 8pm.

It is an all breeds championship show being run by the Cessnock Dog Club and Lake Macquarie All Breeds Kennel Club.

An international panel of judges has been assembled and there will be six championship shows contested.

“We encourage the public to come out and enjoy the weekend watching breeders from all across Australia show their top quality purebred dogs,” event coordinator Ron Besoff said.

“If you’re looking to buy a dog for the family, come to the show and talk to the breeders, pat their dogs and learn about their temperament and the many other benefits of buying a purebred dog.”

The dog show has been running for seven years and attracts purebred canine exhibitors from every state and territory.

This year, the event is expected to have over 4500 purebred dogs entering for a chance to win $40,000 in prizes.

There will also be specialty shows for Boston Terriers, Pugs and Bichon-related breeds on Thursday at the same venue.
