The Roosters return to the Northern NSW Football’s top-tier men’s competition next year and have three years to re-establish themselves in the league before promotion and relegation come back into effect.
Richards took Lake Macquarie to the minor premiership in First Division this year and hopes to unearth some talented up-and-comers during the club’s youth and senior trials this month.
The Roosters have secured goalkeeping coach Matt Stonham, who worked with Richards previously at Maitland.
They have also signed strike weapon Thomas Sparre from Cooks Hill United.
“He is an attacking player and is a 20-year-old who wants to stay at an NPL club and make a name for himself,” Richards said.
“We have been getting a lot of interest from the Central Coast and are hoping to tap into their market because we are the closest club to the Central Coast.
“We are hoping to find some guys like Thomas, who are just missing out on first grade or might be playing on the coast. We’re keen to give some young kids a go and to help develop them.”
