Coordinated by St Vincent de Paul Society, local services will survey rough sleepers in streets and reserves in the Newcastle local government area to find out their individual needs early on October 18, 19 and 20.
The head count and benevolent inquiry will be followed by actions to support rough sleepers and find suitable housing under the banner Together Ending Homelessness - Newcastle.
I encourage individuals, businesses and organisations to get behind this great initiative and help the first ever Newcastle Registry Week. We need help to make this survey as accurate as possible.
Homelessness is a complex issue, and Registry Week is a great way to help less fortunate people as it will lead to more support and hopefully roofs over more heads. There are plenty of ways to get involved, from identifying someone who's sleeping rough for the survey team, donating a coffee or meal to a volunteer or providing a room or property. Rough sleepers interviewed during the three days will receive a coffee and meal voucher courtesy of Registry Week supporters Good Brother Espresso and Suspension Espresso.
