Member for Graffiti Removal Day Jeff Egan said graffiti vandalism costs businesses, households, NSW Government and councils millions of dollars every year.
“Graffiti Removal Day draws attention to the fight against graffiti vandalism and encourages people to get involved in the removal and prevention of graffiti,” Mr Egan said.
“Graffiti Removal Day is a day where we can come together in the fight against graffiti and make a real difference to the appearance of our community.”
Egan said last year across NSW over 2000 volunteers helped remove graffiti from 450 sites and hoped to improve on that this year.
Lake Macquarie City Council Manager Community Planning John Ferguson said graffiti vandalism remained “an ongoing challenge faced by council, local businesses and homeowners across the city”.
“Not only is graffiti costly to remove, but our residents often report feeling unsafe when graffiti vandalism is carried out in their community,” Mr Ferguson said.
“Graffiti Removal Day provides a great opportunity for individuals, community groups, sporting clubs, businesses and other organisations to join the fight against graffiti and make a real difference to the appearance of their local community.”
People can register, suggest a clean-up site or find a graffiti removal meeting place through www.graffitiremovalday.org.au.
Cleaning equipment and training will be provided.
