Thousands of people from across the region are expected to descend on the shores of Lake Macquarie to commemorate the Rathmines World War II RAAF Base.
Mayor of Lake Macquarie Kay Fraser said it was an important event on the council’s calendar.
“The Rathmines Catalina Festival is a wonderful community event that promotes the significance of the Rathmines RAAF Base, which became the largest RAAF flying boat base in the southern hemisphere during World War II,” Councillor Fraser said.
The festival features live entertainment, market and food stalls, plus land, sea and air activities.
