Stephen Craig has represented Australia at three world championships and his Swedish wife Martina grew up with the popular European sport.
Now their 12-year-old son Alvin has been earmarked for future greatness after some stunning results in his debut on the national stage.
The Newcastle East Public School year six student upstaged his older rivals at the Australian titles held in Queensland last month to win the men’s 14A sprint and long distance races as well as leading NSW to victory in the junior boys schools relay.
Alvin, who was born in Sweden and spent six years honing his orienteering skills there before his family moved to Australia last December, was also named in the All-Australian junior boys secondary schools team.
Stephen won the men’s 45A long and middle distance races at the Australian titles and Martina was third in women's 45A middle distance race.
The New Lambton family are part of the Newcastle Orienteering Club.
