Newcastle topped the W-League ladder before losing 5-2 to Canberra United away on Saturday. They slipped to fifth in the process.
The women’s competition is only 12 rounds long and Simon said it was imperative to get back into the winner’s circle when they host Sydney at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday.
The match will be the first of a double header with the Jets’ A-League side, who sustained a 2-0 loss to Melbourne Victory on the road on Saturday night.
“We just didn’t play as well as we could’ve played,” Simon said. “Canberra have the best attacking side in the league, their front five players are among the most dangerous players in the league.
“They definitely took their opportunities and pretty much finished everything they got.”
How we respond and how we turn it around next week is important.

They play W-league front-runners Sydney at 2.30pm. The Jets men also play Sydney. Their kick-off is 5pm.
“How we respond and how we turn it around next week is important,” Simon said.
“We definitely have to bounce back and get a win this weekend so we can stay in a position to be pushing for the finals.”
