Ms Maguire is the YMCA Kotara OSHC co-ordinator and ran a Kids4Kids project this term which involved students making items to sell at the Hunter St Organic Markets last Saturday.
They raised $565 which will be now used to purchase Christmas presents for kids in need.
“We wanted to try to help other families in our community who don’t have as as much as we do at Christmas,” Ms Maguire said.
Handmade items included tic tac toe bags, potted plants, candles and lace dream catchers, among other things.
“I wanted the kids to have ownership from the get-go,” she said. “I wanted to empower them to know they could act to change things.”
Ms Maguire was “blown away” by the support and generosity of the community for the project.
