Both of Newcastle’s elite football sides lost to Sydney at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday.
The women went down 2-1 in a game which was marred by a controversial first-half penalty.
The men were beaten 2-0.
In the women’s game, Sydney took an early lead when Kyah Simon converted from the spot. Sydney striker Remy Siemsen went down in the box after a very light touch from Megan Oyster.
“We created enough opportunities and had the ball in the right areas to win the game, but we just lacked that little bit of killer instinct,” Jets women’s coach Craig Deans said.
They are two points outside the top four but will get no points this weekend as they have the bye.
They return to McDonald Jones Stadium on December 16 to host Melbourne Victory.
The A-League side are rooted to the bottom of their ladder and face a tough road trip to play fifth-placed Glory on Saturday night.
They were missing injured stars Nigel Boogaard, Daniel Mullen, Lachlan Jackson, Morten Nordstrand, Andrew Nabbout, Aleksandr Kokko and Ben Kennedy against Sydney.
