Scone Paramedics’ new station officer took over the position on December 3 following the departure of long-serving predecessor Tim McEwen.
Mr Bell, who spent the previous 12 months working at Merriwa, said the local community had been extremely welcoming since his appointment.
“I’ve been doing this for the past 15 years and about 10 or 11 of those were in metro areas like Newcastle and Sydney,” he said.
“I was also based at Tea Gardens and Gloucester before going to Merriwa.
“I have found it really rewarding here; there’s a real sense of community in a rural community, people just look after you.”
Some of the responsibilities that fall under his position include ensuring the management of staff, training, liaising with the community, and working with the local health district.
He believed the variety of tasks available had been an added bonus.
“You’re not doing the same type of emergency work here in Scone, you get the full range,” he said.
“There’s road and farm trauma, nursing homes, cardiac issues, aged care, and horse-related trauma.”
Mr Bell said he was eager to continue the impressive work done in the area.
“I want to keep going with Tim’s work and promote our capabilities,” he said.
“I also want to inform the community of anything new we can do that contributes to their health and encourage more education, not just for us, but for other health professionals.
“[Finally], I want to enhance staff members’ careers for the future, wherever that may take them.”
