The HSC is out of the way and this entrepreneurial young 18-year-old can’t wait to pour all her energy into expanding her dance school.
Kirra opened Encore Dance in 2014 at just 15 years of age as a means of earning some pocket money..
It quickly blossomed into a going concern with over 60 students, which she has managed with the able assistance and support of her mother over the last three years.
In the meantime, Kirra has juggled the demands of the HSC with commitments around television extra roles on Home & Away and also rehearsals for her singing performances for both school and out-of-school events, being a featured artist at local events such as Lake Macquarie and Newcastle Carols, Star Struck, Lake Macquarie Sports Awards, International Children’s Games and the recent Run Newcastle event.
“I always say that singing is something I do for me, but dance is about my passion for sharing the joy of dance with others,” Kirra said. “It’s busy, but I love it.”
Encore Dance is located in Adamstown at Henderson Park Hall.
Kirra aims to provide kids with opportunities to explore feelings and emotions through dance.
“Dancing builds discipline and confidence and when you see the kids perform on stage at the end-of-year concert, it’s all worthwhile,” she said.
“I teach classical ballet, jazz, contemporary and also do private lessons.
“Our hip hop teacher, Riley, teaches hip hop-break dance, with Miss Libby teaching tap.
“There are so many talented kids in the area and I love teaching them and see them develop.”
Kirra has completed her RAD ballet exams and did accelerated HSC dance in Year 10.
“But now HSC is done I’m really excited about throwing myself 100 per cent into Encore Dance,” Kirra said.
