The mercury is set to hit 40 degrees on Tuesday and 42 on Wednesday in both Maitland and Cessnock before dropping back to 29 with a possible shower on Thursday.
Wednesday’s scorcher is set to be accompanied by strong winds of 22km/hour, creating high-risk fire conditions.
The heat is not forecast to be as scorching on the coast however, with a forecast of 31 on Tuesday and 35 on Wednesday in Newcastle.
Friday will be another hot one in the Lower Hunter, with predictions of 36 degrees in Maitland and Cessnock.
