Manu takes over from Matthew Chidgey, who has stepped down due to increasing work commitments.
The Waratahs Rugby Union Club president Greg Taylor said Manu’s extensive experience and respect among the Premier 1 playing roster were both factors in his appointment.
“Carl is a fearless competitor in the backline on the field and we expect that determination to come through in his coaching role,” Taylor said.
“He has been assisting in a few coaching areas at The Waratahs in recent seasons and has already won the respect of players as a leader.”
Taylor said Chidgey would remain involved with the club to help Manu’s transition into his new role.
The NHRU 2017 competition starts April 8.
