In all, 10 Paralympians and seven Olympians will hit the Lake Macquarie track among an expected 300 elite athletes vying for honours in the prestigious event.
Popular Olympic hurdler Michelle Jenneke and women’s 4 x 400-metre relay finalists Morgan Mitchell and Anneliese Rubie are on the entries list.
The evening event is being held for the eighth time and is expected to attract more than 2000 spectators.
The Hunter Track Classic also has a strong community focus, with events to decide the Hunter’s Fastest Kid over three age categories and the Community 1k Challenge for runners who want to test their time over 1000 metres on the track.
Event organiser and Rio Olympian Scott Westcott described this year’s Hunter Track Classic as a “festival of athletics” featuring an elite program, community races, and coaching clinics.
