The Australian and NSW governments have jointly funded the project, which aims to improve traffic flow in line with the future urban development in Port Stephens, the expansion of Newcastle Airport and the growth of industrial development on Kooragang Island.
“This significant achievement involved installing 77 piles, including 25 on land and 52 in the river … the team can now build the bridge piers and install the concrete bridge beams using a large crane on a barge.”
At completion, a total of 3.8 kilometres of road will have been duplicated between Industrial Drive, Mayfield West and Egret Street at Kooragang, providing two lanes in each direction.
Work is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
