They’re two of Australia’s leading ladies of country and they hatched the idea for the tour after Lawrence and Britt collaborated on the anthem, Cheers to the Girls.
The track, which appears on Lawrence’s fifth album Happy Ever After also included Fanny Lumsden who joins them on tour.
“My first thought when writing the song was Catherine Britt,” Lawrence said of the Hunter songstress.
“We’d been friends for a while but never collaborated. That led to the thought ‘we should tour’.”
The country scene is known for being close knit and both Lawrence and Britt had shared the stage with one another before, albeit briefly.
Each of the performers will play their own set as part of the two-hour show that will include some collaborative pieces.
“It’s really easy for us to relate to each other,” Lawrence said.
“Songs like These Four Walls – when you rely on your parents when things go wrong – as well as [Britt’s] Working Class Man, we have these things in common.
“Like her, my husband is a working class man so I relate to it the same as she does.”
Lawrence is no stranger to the Lower Hunter. She only played the Bluewater Country Music Festival in 2015.
Being on Britt’s home turf makes it even more comfortable.
“It’s going to be just like a home town show, especially with all of Catherine’s fans there,” she said.
“Lizotte’s is a beautiful venue, we hope people come along so we can fill them up with some beautiful food and music for this lunch time show.”
Fanny Lumsden, the show opener, is ‘a breath of fresh country air’ according to Rolling Stone Magazine and has been coined ‘Australia’s answer to Americana’ by Rhythms Magazine.
She won the the 2017 New Talent of the Year Golden Guitar just weeks ago and her debut album, Small Town Big Shot, came in at number six on the Country ARIA Chart.
Love and Lies comes to Lizotte’s on April 9. Tickets are $35 (food extra) and are available from www.newcastle.lizzotes.com.au.
