This year the 30-year-old owner of Fresh CrossFit at Cardiff and Toronto has assembled a large crew of people who will be attempting to climb 20,000 metres in rope climbs in one day.
It is on April 29 and is all in the name of charity with the event being held to raise funds and awareness for the Alive Crusade.
The Alive Crusade (alivecrusade.com) is a non-profit, charity organisation which is committed to providing the community with support, advice, and advocacy for suicide prevention, as well as for depression and anxiety treatments.
“Depression’s a pretty big issue, it has been for me in the past,” Lord said. “Being in a gym environment, we’ve got over 200 members, there’s always someone within the community that’s going through a tough time, that’s suffering from depression. It’s not talked about enough, so it’s just about bringing awareness really.”
The challenge, at Fresh CrossFit, Cardiff (Unit 1/33-37 Pendlebury Road) begins at 6am and is expected to take around 15 hours.
Lord expects some people to perform just one or two climbs while others will be aiming for around 400.
“It’s just trying to bring everyone in,” he said. “It’s about doing something that puts you out of your comfort zone and you get to see a different kind of struggle, and going through that struggle in order to raise awareness for another struggle is what it’s all about.”
Members of the public are encouraged to get along and show their support. There will be donation buckets as well as a silent auction.
