The ‘Rover’ was unveiled at Allambee Park in Valentine on Monday to the delight of students from Valentine Public School.
It is believed to be the first of its kind in regional Australia and gets its first test run at Swanfest on May 27.
“We’re taking the library out into the community and it’s a real asset for the city,” Councillor Fraser said.
“It will be going to events, shopping centres, housing estates, sporting venues and playgrounds across Lake Macquarie.
“The idea is to encourage our young people, and everyone, to read and engage with our libraries.”
The Rover also provides technology opportunities such as using a 3D printer.
