Float Your Boat is a great new community event for our city designed to celebrate our connection with the lake by creating a beautiful night-time spectacle. It will involve flotillas of illuminated boats parading along opposite sides of the lake on consecutive nights.
The parade will follow a course along the eastern side on the first night, moving from from Marmong Point Marina to Warners Bay, Eleebana and Valentine, then finishing at Belmont. On the second, it will travel from Marmong Point to Toronto, Coal Point, Fishing Point and Wangi Wangi.
Owners of boats more than five metres in length are invited to decorate their vessels with lights and join the fun on water, while landlubbers are encouraged to organise balcony barbecues and foreshore gatherings to watch the passing parade.
There will be more than $5000 in cash prizes for the best-decorated boats, with spectators able to cast their vote via social media in the People’s Choice category.
I will be joining a boat crew on the opening night of the parade and encourage everyone to get involved with this great event, whether on land or water.
If you would like to be a part of the parade, download and complete the expression of interest form at lakemac.com.au by Wednesday 7 June 2017.
