But Warners Bay drew level with them after another commanding win on Sunday, this time easily accounting for an under-manned South Wallsend 8-1.

Player-coach Cassidy Davis, Jenna Kingsley and Sass Seaborn all scored match doubles.

Nadja Squires scored from the penalty spot and Sophie Stapleford also got on the scoresheet.

Warners Bay’s only loss this season has been a 2-1 defeat at the hands of United in round five, and the defending champions have shown no signs of weakness since.

The have scored an impressive 28 goals in their past four outings.

Davis was happy with the big win ahead of their showdown with United but said “we’ve still go to do the simple things right”.

“There was a few times when we gave away the ball too cheaply against South Wallsend,” Davis said.

“It was not out our best game but we are still scoring goals and everyone is keen to play Merewether again.”

Warners Bay and Merewether have the same goal difference. The former have scored six more goals than their counterparts while United have conceded six less.

They meet at John Street Oval at 2.15pm on Sunday.

Thornton, who recorded their first win of the season last round, host South Wallsend and Mid North Coast play Wallsend.
