In all, $72,000 in grants is being offered in eight Lower Governments Areas, also including Maitland Central Coast and Port Stephens.
It is part of the inaugural Smart Art Includes You Challenge and is open to all public primary schools and high schools.
Gabriel Wingate-Pearse, community engagement coordinator for Ability Links NSW, Hunter Central Coast, said the purpose of the project was to get students exploring inclusion at school and in the wider community.
“The idea is to encourage the kids to talk about inclusion by coming up with an artwork that says what inclusion means to me,” Ms Wingate-Pearse said.
“That might be a rap song, an iMovie, a photo series with a story or visual art.”
First prize is $5000, second prize is $2500 and there are also individual prizes. Registration closes July 28. Find out more through 0400 491 507.
