The Aussie rock legends will headline the race concert on November 25 in the city where front man Jimmy Barnes fondly recalls playing to “wild and appreciative crowds” in the 1970s.
Jimmy said at last week's announcement that the band used to play to empty houses in Sydney but come to Newcastle to play to full crowds “clambering out the windows”.
“Quite often we would be up here three times a month so this would become our second home,” he said.
It was a privilege welcoming him and guitarist Ian Moss back to the city on behalf of all Novocastrians because for the longest time we've considered them family, given their historical connection to the city.
Many of us grew up belting out classic Cold Chisel tracks and I can't wait to see them again in November. I am delighted they've agreed to play.
It shows that not only can the city draw major events like Supercars but legendary, in-demand performers like Cold Chisel.
Noting the city's great transformation, Jimmy said it was great to be part of Newcastle's resurgence almost 40 years after the band entered local folklore during harder economic times.
