According to Oakvale Farm & Fauna World curator Lachlan Gordon, Hitch is a big fan of oats, Weet-Bix and being held.
“He was rescued and hand-raised, so maybe that’s why he loves cuddles,” Mr Gordon said.
Hitch is about to become the star in the farm’s latest conservation effort, raising awareness of the plight of wombats in the wild.
From July 1, Oakvale will play host to wombat encounters, allowing visitors to get up close with the cuddly Hitch, a bare-nosed wombat, in the hope of highlighting the problems facing his endangered relatives, the northern and southern hairy-nosed wombats.
But Hitch is not the only adorable addition to Oakvale, with the farm revealing a record number of four koala joeys following its most successful breeding season on record.
At Hunter Valley Gardens, it is ‘Snow Time’ with ice tobogganing, ice skating and a play zone to build snowmen and snow angels. Snow Time in The Garden runs from June 24 until July 16.
Closer to home, there are loads of activity options at libraries and art galleries.
These include decorating pirate hats or sparkly mermaids at Wangi Wangi Library on July 3, painting your pet at Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery on July 5 or science lessons at Speers Point Library on July 7.
