The young talent has no plans to appear on the X-Factor or The Voice.
“I just don’t like the shows, they are very opinionated about the people’s looks rather than the talent,” she said.
“Everyone has a different musical ability and it shouldn’t be competed for.”
She has already recorded a single after producers at Studios 301, Sydney, were so impressed with her talent they offered her a cut-price recording deal.
“My music school, The National Academy of Music, sent it to them and they listened to it and really liked it,” she said. “They offered to record it for me.”
She said the recording experience was “amazing”.
Her song The Cry is the result of her time in the studio and is about the struggles of refugees.
“It’s about them trying to get into Australia and not being able to,” she said.
Lovatt is a fan of metal, but the songs she pens do not reflect her love of the genre.
“The Cry, the influence and inspiration came from System of a Down,” she said.
“They are always very political in their songs.”
So while the themes are drawn from metal influences, the music draws from a love of contemporary pop.
“I pretty much like all music,” she said.
Lovatt has grown up in a musical family. Her two siblings are musical, while her mother is a classically trained pianist, and her father plays guitar and drums.
There is always someone in the Lovatt household playing a musical instrument.
She says she has been singing “forever”.
“Mum and Dad influence me a lot,” she said. “They give me a lot of confidence to write and to perform in front of people.”
Lovatt, who writes on piano and guitar, is currently working on numerous songs.
“I am slowly working on writing for a full album of my own songs, once I have all of those I will record some more,” she said.
She hopes to record and release an EP before the end of 2018.
Lovatt has performed in several venues across Newcastle, including Lizottes, Mavericks, The Civic Theatre and the Premier Hotel.
She is also in the mass ensemble for the musical Grease, which will be performed at the Entertainment Centre in July.
She will also perform the national anthem when the Newcastle Knights take on The Storm in round 24 on August 19 at the McDonald Jones Stadium.
