Mr Shepherd is the secretary of Cardiff Area Sustainable Neighbourhood Group (CASNG), which will hold the forum at Cardiff library from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
In attendance will be Lake Macquarie City Council staff as well as Peter Lee from Newcastle Cycleways to explain the Newcastle CycleSafe plan.
“That’s a group of cyclists who have a strategy to connect cycleways in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, so we’d like to hear what they have to say,” Mr Shepherd said.
CASNG supports Cardiff, Cardiff Heights, Cardiff South, Garden Suburb and Hillsborough and Mr Shepherd said that area was not serviced particularly well by cycleways and walkways.
He said there was one cycleway connecting Cardiff to Hillsborough but of growing concern were “a cluster” of on-road bike accidents in the Cardiff area.
“You got this beautiful pathway here but you could also easily get right into Cardiff safely [with a connecting pathway],” he said.
