A letter sent out to club members emphasised attendance at the meeting was “critical” and the club’s “financial standing” would be revealed.
“Your input on decisions for the club’s future and survival is vital,” the letter read.
However, several club members told The Newcastle Star they received no notification of the impending meeting.
Under the act which governs registered co-operatives, 14 days notice must be given to all club members.
On Thursday a sign posted on the door of the club read, “If you have not received your letter of notification please leave details at the bar.”
In June, the club was subject to an investigation by Liquor and Gaming NSW, a spokesperson for Liquor and Gaming confirmed.
“The investigation followed a complaint made in March 2017 which alleged that mismanagement by the club’s executive and governing body had resulted in a poor financial position,” the spokesperson said.
However, inspectors investigated the allegations as they relate to the Registered Clubs Act and found while the club was experiencing financial hardship, there were no breaches of relevant laws.
The club is due to hold its AGM on July 30 at 10.30am at the club in Albert Street, Wickham.
Board member Wayne Barrett said he urged members who did not receive notification of the AGM to turn up to the meeting anyway.
“It is important all members get along to the meeting so they can have a say,” Mr Barrett said.
The club is located on 8200sqm of Crown land in Wickham Park, also home to the Fig Tree Community Garden. The club is 40 years into a perpetual lease.
Liquor and Gaming said it would continue to monitor the club’s operations.
The club did not respond to calls from The Star.
