Claire Burgess will be aiming for a top-10 finish on the national stage when she represents NSW at the Australian All Schools orienteering championships at Bathurst in September.

The Hunter School of Performing Arts student was one of three from Newcastle named in the NSW All Schools team on July 20.
It is the fourth time the 16-year-old will compete for NSW All Schools in the sport she has grown up with.
“I’ve been doing it pretty much my whole life,” Burgess said. “Mum and dad do it and I got dragged around to their events as a little kid.
“I like that it’s not just running, it’s mental as well. It makes it more interesting, reading a map while running.”
Burgess will compete for NSW in senior girls. Warners Bay High School’s Mikayla Enderby has been picked in the junior girls division and Merewether High School’s Alvin Craig in the junior boys.
“I’d definitely like to finish top 10 in the individual event, if not higher, and hopefully the relay team goes well,” Burgess said.
They will compete in the individual, sprint and relay events from September 26 to 28.
