Home-grown talents, such as Rusta King, will pit themselves against amateur PCYC boxers from across the state in a night full of boxing action.
Martin Eddy, club manager PCYC Lake Macquarie, said King’s fight will be one of the highlights of the evening, along with that of PCYC Newcastle’s Youth Case Manager Brendan Haile.
Eddy said the concept behind the night was two-pronged: to give Newcastle and Lake Macquarie boxers ring time as well as raising funds to improve the boxing programs at the Windale and Broadmeadow community facilities.
Part of our mission is getting young kids active in life, and that is what the aim of this program is.

“This kind of thing probably hasn’t been done for quite a while,” Eddy said.
“One-third of our funds come from fundraising so that is one of the reasons we are holding the event.
“We should have 15-plus fights on the night. All boxers are from the PCYC Boxing Institute, which is for all PCYC clubs.
“All of them are amateur boxers and will all be matched by a matchmaker. Some will just have exhibition fights, it’s a link in the chain for their amateur careers.”
PCYC Lake Macquarie have three amateur boxers training in their program under Gordon King, Rusta’s father.
“It’s the first time they have combined for a boxing event,” Eddy said.
“We’re trying to build the boxing program up and we cater for those who are serious and those who just want to get fit.”
Eddy said funds from the night would be used to improve their boxing training program through purchasing more equipment used for the weekly early morning sessions.
He hoped to see more members of the community utilising the sessions and said anyone interested in learning more about the program or the fight night should contact him direct on 0421 611 449.
“Part of our mission is getting young kids active in life, and that is what the aim of this program is,” Eddy said.
Doors open at 5pm for the fundraising fight night and tickets are available through the Windale club.
