The new six-station fitness trail along the edge of Lake Macquarie has been planned to supplement existing equipment at Speers Point Park.
Council’s acting manager community planning, Andrew Bryant, said the six stations would be spread across a 1.5-kilometre stretch to enable users to create their own interval, circuit-style workout complete with stairs, parallel bars, sit-up benches, leg presses and more.
“Our outdoor gyms are geared towards low-impact exercise, making it perfect for those recovering from injury or beginning a new fitness journey,” Mr Bryant said.
“We encourage users to combine both strength and cardio training along the Speers Point scenic fitness trail, and remember to take regular breaks, drink water and enjoy yourself.”
The gym stations are under construction and are expected to be available for all park users by the September/October school holidays.
