His business, at 144 Lambton Road, Broadmeadow, supplies mobility scooters, mobile aids, wheelchairs, beds etc, from the basic to the most complex, to those in need.

“It’s important that our customers be treated like normal human beings,” Philip said. 

“That’s what our team is all about, empathy: our service must be exactly what each individual customer needs and they must feel comfortable with the outcome.

“In-home servicing is important and we endeavour to get there straight away. If a product can’t be fixed immediately, we’ll leave something the client can use in the meantime.” 

There is a tendency with people who experience mobility issues to “give up”.

“Some people might think once they’ve lost their licence, for example, they can’t get out anymore,” he said.

“But a mobility scooter  increases independence, self-esteem and is within reach.

“You don’t necessarily have to be  reliant on other people. With the right equipment people  can still do a lot of things  themselves and that ultimately improves quality of life.”

Established just over two years with wife and co-owner Paulla, Independent Mobility & Rehab is a member of ATSA and accredited with NSW Health, NDIS, the Department of Veteran Affairs, and the various funding bodies and private insurers involved in lifetime care.

“I have a long background in mobility supplies and after taking a short break from the industry I was contacted by a number of former customers dissatisfied with the levels of service they were getting,” Philip said.

Philip’s team of Louise and Wayne boast more than 30 years’ experience in the mobility and rehabilitation industry.

“Our clients like to be seen as normal members of society and the smile on the face is what counts,” Philip said.

“Being able to help  out people makes the job feel less like a job, it is  very rewarding.”
